フランスの消費者団体、Union Federale des Consommateurs-Que Choisirは、ソニーおよびAppleの採用するデジタル著作権管理技術は、オンラインミュージックストアで購入した曲を他社のメディアプレイヤーで再生できなくしており、消費者の選択を制限しているとして、それぞれのプロプライエタリな音楽フォーマットに関する訴訟を起こした。 同消費者団体は昨年、複数のダウンロードサービスとデジタル音楽プレイヤーを対象に互換性を調べるテストを行い、その後訴訟を起こすと発表していた。同団体は、両社のDRMに互換性がないことを非難した。
