携帯電話機メーカー各社は、電話端末にiPodのようなMP3プレイヤーの機能を追加しようとしているが、今回の提携発表はこうした傾向が加速していることの表れでもある。一方、携帯通信各社では、新しい収入源として音楽に注目するようになっている。たとえば、先ごろMotorolaは、iTunesソフトウェアを搭載した携帯電話端末を開発することで、Appleと契約を交わしている。こうした機能を搭載した携帯電話端末は、今年前半にも発売されるものと思われる。
