WMP 10は、Windows XP専用の最新メディアプレーヤー。マイクロソフトによると、WMP 10に搭載されているDRM（デジタル著作権管理機能）に、「悪意のあるハッキングが可能な問題を確認した」という。今回の更新プログラムでは、この問題を修正したほか、ライセンス発行者がライセンスの発行・更新前に、対象となる各ユーザーのPCを確認できるようになったとしている。
