音楽配信サービスを提供しているのはレコード会社／関連事業者だけではない。FTTHを展開するUSENも「OnGen」で音楽配信を行っている。レコード会社ではない同社が目指す音楽配信のカタチとは？
2004年8月、有線放送とFTTHを中心としたネットワークサービスを手がけるUSENが音楽配信サービス「OnGen USEN MUSIC SERVER(以下 OnGen)」を開始した。それ以降、2004年10月にはMSNが、今年2月にはヤフーが音楽配信をスタートするなど参入が相次いでいるが、これらは音楽配信サービス事業者全体から見れば後発の部類に属する。
