このようにW31Sのリモコンは、「ポータブルオーディオのリモコン」として考えても必要十分な内容になっている。しかし、筆者が注目しているのは、イヤホンマイク機能を内包する点だ。W31Sのリモコンには「通話・終話」ボタンがあり、マイクが内蔵されている。これにより音楽を聴いている時は、同時に「イヤホンマイク装着中」になるからだ。
周知の通り、日本では携帯電話の「イヤホン文化」は育っておらず、それが運転中のイヤホンマイク利用の促進からエンタテイメント分野での音ありコンテンツの発達など、様々な分野のハードルになっている。欧米ではホワイトカラーを中心にイヤホンマイク利用が活発で、それがBluetoothハンズフリーソリューションの下地になったのだが、日本は「イヤホン利用」の段階にすら達していない実情だ。
