BadFruitという新しい会社が、iTunesで新たにポッドキャストをサポートするというApple Computerの計画を先取りし、独自にその機能を実現する「BadApple」というソフトウェアプラグインを投入してきた。
今のところ、BadFruitサイトを運営するプログラマーたちは素性を明かしていないが、複数の手掛かりから、ある企業の名前が浮かび上がっている。地下で活動するハッカープロジェクトと異なり、同ソフトウェアには洗練されたプライバシーポリシーと利用規約が付いていることから、将来大規模な計画に発展する可能性も取り沙汰されている。
BadAppleを組み込んだiTunesでは、数百のポッドキャストへシームレスにアクセスできるようになり、ダウンロード機能はiTunesミュージックストアとほぼ同様の動きをする。
