既報の通り、エイベックス・グループ・ホールディングス株式会社は4月11日、音楽配信の高音質化を目的とした機関「High Definition Sound laboratory」(HD Sound Lab.)を設立し、通信キャリアやハードウェアメーカーと協調して、高音質環境の構築を推進していくことを発表した。
その第一弾として、エイベックス ネットワーク株式会社は6月15日より、高音質な音楽配信サイト「@MUSIC HD Sound」を開設し、配信を開始した。まだ、実験の場といった位置づけのため、大々的なプロモーション活動などは行なわれていない。
しかし、16bit/44.1kHzのサウンドをWMA形式のロスレスでの配信したのを皮切りに、globeの新曲CDリリースを前に、CDマスタリング前の24bit/96kHzミックスダウンをそのままWMAロスレスで配信するなど、これまでにない非常にユニークなサービスが展開されている。
