Sun Microsystemsは著作権付きデジタルコンテンツの保護という困難な問題を重視し、8月21日にOpen Media Commonsというプロジェクトに取り組むと発表した。同プロジェクトはオープンソースで、ロイヤルティーフリーで使用できるDRM標準を開発することが目的。 DRM問題に関しては、コンテンツ保護で多くの計画が登場している。携帯電話、デジタル音楽プレーヤー、CD、DVDそのほかのメディア向けの標準として、InterTrust、Microsoft、Apple Computer、ソニーらが競っている。
